Research technician dpt. Center for Molecular Medicine - Joana Silva lab
We offer a position for a research technician in the Silva Lab, a newly established group at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) in Utrecht.
Our research focuses on understanding how RNA translation influences metabolism and cell fate, using cutting-edge techniques including ribosome profiling, molecular cloning, and organoid culture systems.
You will support and help shape research projects that explore how RNA translation affects cellular metabolism and identity. You will contribute to the daily operations of the lab, including setting up protocols, maintaining and generating organoid and cell lines, preparing molecular biology reagents, and supporting high-throughput sequencing workflows. You will work closely with the group leader and other lab members to establish a structured and collaborative working environment. As a foundational member, your work will play a central role in developing the lab’s research pipeline and in generating high-quality, reproducible data. We are committed to building a team that values scientific excellence, personal growth, and a healthy and inclusive work culture. If you are looking for a technician role in an environment where your ideas and input are valued we would love to hear from you.
The Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) is a research institute within the UMC Utrecht, where more than 180 researchers work together to better understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive human disease. The CMM combines fundamental and translational research with a strong focus on collaboration and scientific excellence. Research at the CMM spans a broad range of topics, including genetics, cell biology, metabolism, and regenerative medicine. Our lab is part of this diverse and interdisciplinary environment, and is especially focused on how RNA translation regulates metabolism and cell fate decisions. With access to advanced facilities and a strong academic network, the CMM offers an ideal setting for those interested in contributing to high-quality, curiosity-driven biomedical research.
You are a research technician and/or hold an HBO degree in biomedical sciences or a related field. You enjoy working in an academic setting and are motivated by fundamental biological questions. You have a structured and detail-oriented working style, take initiative in organizing your tasks, and value well-documented and reproducible experiments. You are also someone who communicates clearly, enjoys working in a team, and is open to learning and developing new skills. You are an enthusiastic and organized technician with a solid foundation in molecular and cellular biology. You have strong molecular and cellular technical skills, including hands-on experience with cell culture and organoid systems, molecular cloning and library preparations. Experience with ribosome profiling and metabolic assays is appreciated but not required. You are comfortable managing your own experiments, keeping the lab environment well-organized, and contributing to method optimization and protocol development. Strong documentation skills, communication, and a collaborative attitude are essential. You take pride in doing things carefully and efficiently, and you are excited to be part of a team that is building something new.
